BLACK PRINCE Sword (VA 073)
Named in honor of Edward “The Black Prince” who led the English to victory at the battle of Poitier during the Hundred Years War, this elegant hand and a half sword is more than worthy of Edward’s monogram. With its fully forged 34-inch tapered blade, this sword is nimble enough to poke holes through the chinks in plate mail yet strong enough to crush through simple chain when swung with two hands. The steel wheel pommel also serves as a formidable striking point as well, making this sword a remarkable weapon either way you look at it. Either mounted on the wall with your family crest or mounted on your hip in its matched fit leather scabbard, this sword will look impressive in any light. (Leather Scabbard Included)

Black Prince (1330 - 1376)
Edward, Prince of Wales, is remembered by some as a great chivalric hero of British history, and an able commander with notable victories at the Battles of Crecy and Poitiers. The son of Edward III, king of England from 1327, he himself never ruled as king because he died a year before his father.

At the Battle of Crécy, which was fought on the 26th August following, King Edward, desirous that his noble son should "win his spurs," gave him the command of the van, with the counsel and assistance of the Earl of Warwick and Sir John Chandos. The tradition near the spot is, that the King had ordered the Prince to wear, on that day, a black cuirass, richly ornamented; and that, from this incident, he retained the surname attributed to him in history. The defeat of the enemy is known to have been complete; and the delighted father, embracing his son on the field of victory, eulogised his valour and pronounced him worthy of empire.
