The Civil War Canteens were used by soldiers to carry essential drinking water. A Civil War Canteen was usually made of wood, which was used more by confederate soldiers, and tin. Canteens sometimes were covered in wool cloth. Usually worn over the right shoulder opposite the cartridge box.
