This amazingly detailed Viking Longship was inspired by the Scandinavian seafaring explorers of the 9th to 11th century. With the head of a beast rising up at the ships bow, and a tail curled at the stern, this craft must have been a terrifying sight for anyone gazing from a shoreline. Cast in quality resin to capture fine details, this collector quality ship features 30 ors and shields, hand painted sails and detailing with hand strung rigging. The Viking Longship Model 10636 is 12-3/4 inches long and 11-1/2 inches tall. Comes fully assembled and includes a display base that is detailed to look like rugged shipyard wood. You are sure to be delighted by the superior quality and dedication to detail that will add historical ambience to any decor and inspire great Viking tales of old.

The historic Viking Drekar (or Drakkar), or dragon-headed longship, was a stealthy troop carrier powered by sail and muscular oarsmen. From about AD 800 the Vikings were the most powerful people in northwestern Europe for nearly five centuries . Their longships were fast and sleek. Powered by sail or oars, they were ideally suited for raiding because their shallow draught meant that they could travel up estuaries and rivers. The Vikings traveled from Norway east to the Black Sea and west to found colonies in Iceland and Greenland. The Norse sagas tell us that the explorer Leif Ericsson went farther, becoming the first European to set foot in North America, when he reached New Foundland or “Vinland” around the year 1001.
