VIKING BEOWULF HELMET w/ AVENTAILNobleWares Image of Viking Beowulf Helmet with Aventail AH6770 by Deepeeka AH6770 DEEPEEKA
Beowulf & Grendel is a medieval adventure, part legendary fable, part horror-story. Based on the seminal 9th century Anglo-Saxon poem, Beowulf, it tells the blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior's battle against a great and murderous troll, Grendel. A clearly identical likeness of this helm is worn by Beowulf (played by Gerard Butler) throughout the 2005 movie Beowulf & Grendel directed by Robert Zemeckis. The Beowulf Helmet is of Anglo-Saxon/Viking design. It is constructed from 18 gauge steel and is reinforced with riveted steel bands and an antiqued brass band decorated with knotwork in relief. A brass serpentine crest runs from between the embossed brow piece to the back of the skull cap. The ocular mask and hinged face guards are trimmed in brass and accented with brass rivets befitting the status on an Anglo-Saxon Hero. The Beowulf Helm features and adjustable leather liner and buckled chin strap and a zinc plated chainmail aventail to protect the neck. Deepeeka is world renown for their skills and dedication to building fine historic weapons and researched authentic functional armour replicas.

Beowulf is the oldest surviving epic poem in Old English and is commonly cited as one of the most important works of Anglo-Saxon literature. The full poem survives in the manuscript known as the Nowell Codex and is located in the British Library. It was written in England between the 8th and 11th century by an anonymous Anglo Saxon poet. The manuscript was badly damaged in 1731 in a fire at Ashburnham House where it was held along with a collection of other medieval manuscripts. Beowulf is the name of the hero of the poem. He goes to the aid of the king of the Danes whose great hall is plagued by the monster Grendel. Beowulf kills Grendel with his bare hands and then slays Grendel’s mother with the sword of a giant that he finds in her lair.
