VIKING BEARDED AXE XH1073N CAS Hanwei
Cutting tools of the Vikings commonly doubled as weapons of war when these famed raiders sailed on pillaging forays. This Bearded Axe (HX1073N) by CAS HANWEI is typical pattern true to its historic originals, and is capable of cleaving helms or armour with impunity. They feature forged carbon steel heads with sharp tempered edges and hardwood shafts all given a beautiful antiqued finish. Shafts measure approximately 30 ½” long and are tapered for a slip secure head fit. This Historically accurate and fully functional axe weighs approx 4 lbs 6 oz. and would have been a primary fighting weapon for Viking warriors. Very sharp, this axe includes leather edge cover for safe handling and portability.

The warriors of the Viking Age used different types and sizes of axes. Axes during this time were commonly used in hand-to-hand combat; smaller axes with shorter shafts were sometimes even thrown during an attack. The manner in which axes were used was largely dictated by the circumstances of the battle and the size of the axe. Most two-handed axes, were particularly devastating due to fact that their broad, thin edge was backed by a thick body for resiliency. Such a weapon could strike hard against a man in armour, or compromise a shield with its sheer force. Such weapons were often two-handed, like their wood-axe cousins, for control and power.
