VIKING SHORT AXENobleWares Image of Viking Short Axe (antiqued) XH2044N by CAS Hanwei XH2044N CAS Hanwei
Cutting tools of the Vikings commonly doubled as weapons of war when these famed raiders sailed on their pillaging forays. Axes were certainly top of the list and came to symbolize the terror spread among their foes. Varying greatly in size, from small throwing axes, to the mighty Danish Axe, axes were the most commonly used weapons of the Nordic warrior. This fully functional authentic Viking axe from CAS Hanwei features a forged head in blackened carbon steel, a sharp tempered edge and hardwood shaft; all given a beautiful antiqued finish. The axe shaft measures approximately 25” long and is tapered for a secure slip head fit. Featuring a forged head with hardened edge, the CAS Hanwei short axe replicates Viking weapons and is made to withstand throwing. It is well balanced and competition approved. Includes leather edge cover for safe handling and portability.

The warriors of the Viking Age used different types and sizes of axes. Axes during this time were commonly used in hand-to-hand combat; smaller axes with shorter shafts were sometimes even thrown during an attack. The manner in which axes were used was largely dictated by the circumstances of the battle and the size of the axe. Such a weapon could strike hard against a man in armour, or compromise a shield with its sheer force. The Short Viking Axe was useful both on the farm and in battle. It excelled as a close quarters weapon, while still being light enough to throw when necessary.
