M1859 SHARPS INFANTRY PERCUSSION RIFLE 1141 Denix The Sharps Rifle was produced by the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut. Sharps Rifles had a well earned reputation for durability and accuracy. The military Sharps rifle was falling block rifle used during and after the American Civil War. The Sharps Models fought all through the Civil War and then became the Famed Buffalo Riles of the West.
Measuring a little over 49 inches in length overall, this Denix model 1141 single-shot non-firing replica 1859 Infantry Rifle is the big brother to the smaller 1859 Sharps Carbine (Denix 1142). Its features include a beautiful Antique Steel Grey finish throughout the rifle body, butt plate, 3 barrel bands, sight, and a side saddle ring. The fore-stock and shoulder stock are constructed of wood and are given a stained and smooth polished finish.

The Sharps made a superior sniper weapon of greater accuracy than the more commonly issued muzzle-loading rifled muskets. Expensive to manufacture (3x the cost of a muzzle-loading Springfield ) only 11,000 of the Model 1859s were produced. It was used in the Civil War by the U.S. Army Marksman, known popularly as "Berdan's Sharpshooters" in honor of their leader Hiram Berdan. Col. Berdan was the commanding officer of the 1st and 2nd US Sharpshooters. Under his tutelage, skilled Union marksmen were trained and equipped with the 52 caliber Sharps Rifle. It has been claimed that Berdan's units were responsible for killing more enemy than any unit in the Union Army.
