CIVIL WAR EMBROIDERED HAT INSIGNIA HS-7823 HS-7828S
On 21 March 1863 each member of a corps in the Army of the Potomac was assigned a unique insignia to wear on his cap, front or side or left breast so that he could be identified easily on the battlefield. The identification insignia idea was adopted by Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker after he assumed command of the Army of the Potomac, so any soldier could be identified at a distance. Maj. Gen. Daniel Butterfield, Hooker's chief of staff, was assigned the task of designing a distinctive shape for each corps badge.

The officer hat devices feature gold bullion thread embroidery on a black velvet field and are made with excellent quality. Designs also include sequins intertwined w/ the bullion and color variations. Appropriate for our US Union Army Officer caps, these insignia must be hand sewn to the cap. Note: Some reenactors choose the option of using velcro to adhere the insignia to their hats. Thus one can quickly and easily change ranks and insignia and not ruin the hat.

These Embroidered Officer's Hat Insignia can add a deeper level of significance and authenticity to your Civil War replica hat, decor or collectable display. Available to both Yankee and Rebel alike, these Civil War Hat Insignias are a great accessory to top off your authentic Civil War outfit. Ideal for re-enactments, weddings, LARPing, costumes for film and theatre.
