CIVIL WAR STAINLESS STEEL CANTEENS HS7840SS / HS7841SS SZCO
The single most important personal item in the field was the soldier's canteen. Dehydration was an ever-present threat during the hot summer seasons, and keeping well-hydrated during drill or battle was of high importance.

Many weapons and accoutrements originating and designed for use in earlier war periods often found their way into the hands of the first Civil War recruits. This "kidney" and "D" Canteens are certainly prime examples. As the war continued the weapons and gear became more and more standardized, official issues soon replaced many family heirlooms of older technology.

Made of Stainless Steel, these fully functional canteens are pre-standard issue reproductions and are available in two sizes; the smaller "D" Canteen measures 9.5" tall by 4.5" wide and carries approx 44 fluid ounces; the Larger "kidney" Canteen measures 10" tall by 5.5" wide and carries approx 64 fluid ounces. Each style includes white cotton cord and wooden stopper with leather strap. The polished stainless steel canteen body is equipped with 2 rope guide rings on each side. The Cotton Rope Shoulder Strap measures 52" in length and can be easily re-knotted for size adjustments.

These Stainless Steel Canteens are hand produced with authentic materials which lends themselves to a finish that may show small slightly dulled or oxidized (patina) areas, or may carry small blemishes or imperfections replicating characteristics of the materials and production process of the period. |
