Despite all the recent political controversy, the Confederate Flag still retains deep historical meaning throughout the South. In the 1970's the dam began to burst on Confederate flag material culture and heritage groups lost control of the flag, as it acquired a new identity becoming a symbol of "rebellion" divorced from the historical context of the Confederacy. Truckers, motorcycle riders and "good ol' boys" (most famously depicted in the popular television show The Dukes of Hazzard) gave the flag a new meaning that transcends the South and even the United States to this day.

Although the battle flag, whether square or rectangular, was never an official flag of the Confederate States of America, it is the most recognizable pattern and has become known as "the Confederate flag" to most people; appearing on monuments, souvenirs, and at historic sites throughout the south.

Since the end of the American Civil War, private and official use of the Confederacy's flags, has continued under philosophical, political, cultural, and racial controversy in the United States. These include flags displayed in states; cities, towns and counties; schools, colleges and universities; private organizations and associations; and by individuals. This clip is one of many somewhat "snarky", somewhat humorous, yet always informative sketch segments from "America's Only Humor & Video Site- Cracked". They offer us bit of history behind the banner that has been feared, loved, hated and arguably misunderstood by countless Rebels and Yanks for generations.
