BLACK PRINCE SWORD (Brass Silver) SG249 ART GLADIUS
The Black Prince, son of Edward III of England, is remembered in history for his great victory over the French at the Battle of Agincourt during the Hundred Years' War. Undoubtedly one of England's finest royal warriors, he earned his name from his blackened armor and accouterments. Undoubtedly one of England's finest royal warriors, he earned his name from his blackened armor and accouterments. This elegant representation of his sword (SG249) with brass and silver finish, and matchng companion Black Prince Dagger (SG515 sold separately) are made by Art Gladius of Spain and feature his coat of arms emblazoned on the hilt and his motto on the pommel.
His motto encircles both sides of the Dagger's round wheel type pommel bearing the words "HONNI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE" being Old French for "Evil be to him who evil thinks". This is also the motto of the Knights of the Garter. The guard and pommel are metal cast and are then given a beautiful polished brass finish and decorated with silver engraved medallion accents. The engraved silver features of the hilt are given an antiqued patina giving a nice visual comliment to the black leather wrap grip bound with gold plated spacers.
The fullered 34 1/2 inch blade is constructed in 420C stainless steel that is tempered to 45-50 HRC, and given a lustrous mirror polish that is virtually maintenance free. The Black Prince dual-edge blade is un-edged for safety and well suited for costume and beautiful display.
Note: These Fine Quality Decorative Swords are designed for costume and display and not intended for cutting or striking against other objects.
