POIGNARD DAGGER 401726 Windlass Steelcrafts A forerunner of many long parrying daggers of later years, its long reach made the Poignard very effective. It saw much use in its own day as a backup weapon on the battlefield and was carried at court when swords were forbidden, for they made formidable weapons in the hands of an expert. The Poignard made by Windlass Steelcrafts features a carbon steel blade, steel guard and pommel, and a wire wrapped grip.
The blade is hexagonal for 1 3/8” in front of the 5/8" ricass before turning into a diamond cross-section. The fully tempered, full tang 1065 carbon steel blade is nicely peened to the pommel ensuring that this dagger is robustly constructed. In the hand, the Windlass Poignard feels as light and fast as a table knife making it highly maneuverable. A well designed blade capable of quick and powerful thrusts, parrying, and amazing cutting abilities when sharpened. The dual-edged blade comes factory dull allowing for custom sharpening to personal specifications and preferred use.
The crossguard and pommel are crafted from mild steel and the grip is overlaid in tight gold wire over black leather wrap. The scabbard is constructed from leather and is fitted with a steel chape and locket.

About the Clip: pgandy
SBG Member pgandy demonstrates the value of having a safe edge option, allowing for safer sparring and practice. A factory dull blade allows for many safe options of use that would be too dangerous if sharp; a factory dull Carbon Steel blade can easily be sharpened if cutting is desired. For a very interesting.

About the Clip: "This was my first tatami cutting session with my Windlass Poignard dagger. I first tried a half mat and when that went well, I cut a full tatami omote mat target. Even though blade is very light, it cut though the mats well. And the hilt is very solid. You can hear the blade ring with each cut :-)
Note: The tatami omote mats from TameshigiriMats.com were soaked for 24 hours and drained for 30 minutes." ..."After having sharpened mine this morning (tip to ricasso), this blade's virtues include thrusting, parrying and cutting. It cut the mats fairly easily and held up well." - Aikidoka
