CLASSIC FULL BOWL PIRATE CUTLASS by DENIX
The Cutlass was a short slashing sword, ideal for the close- quarters battles aboard great sailing ships. It has developed a reputation as the pirate weapon of choice and this version by Denix exploits this connection, with a full-rigged Galleon emblazoned on the simulated antiqued brass full-bowl handguard.
The blades of Denix daggers and swords are cast from a metal alloy and cannot be sharpened, making them safe for display in family environments. Also it should be noted noted that while pulling these swords from their scabbard, the classic "ring" sound is amplified due to the alloy metal materials that compose its 22 1/2" blade -an added bonus when used in theatrical environments. This cutlass features a 22.5" curved blade with 3/4 inch blood groove. This classic full-bowl guard Pirates Cutlass measures 28 3/4" in length and weighs 2 lbs 11oz. Comes with wood scabbard covered in black leather. A skull with crossed sabers & crossed flintlock embossed on scabbards antiqued brass furniture. Excellent for piratical re-creations!
THE POPULAR PIRATE CUTLASS
The cutlass in swashbuckling lore is perhaps one of the most popular weapons of the pirates. After all, a pistol took precious time to reload, and after the guns discharged, the cutlass remained the choice that would keep working without hesitation. With access being just an arm swing away, the cutlass blade design was shorter than that of swords or sabres, having a broader, sturdier, curved blade. It was considered ideal for fighting in the close confines on deck or below. So successful in fact that it was soon copied by many naval forces around the world. Believed to have evolved from the long knives used by the early buccaneers to butcher their meat, the cutlass had a blade length of about two feet, and was slightly curved with a single edge.
