TASSLED CELTIC KNOT DAY SPORRAN image of Black Leather Day-use Sporran 203345NW203345
The close association of the Sporran with Highlanders is due to the lack of pockets in the kilt of the traditional Highland dress. Part of the traditional dress of the Scottish Highlanders, this leather pouch is meant to hang within easy reach from the front of the belt on the kilt. This informal day-use sporran is fashioned in black leather with 3 leather tassels dangling from leather braids in its front. The flap and body are embossed with a large knotwork designs. The flap comes equipped with a front snap closure. Elegant and functional in design this sporran comes complete with chain belt and D loop for fitting adjustments up to 45 inches. The Sporran has an integrated belt loop on its back. A day Sporran is intended for non-formal events and day wear events.

In the belted plaid, although the wearer could fashion various pockets from the upper portion of the fabric, none of them were very secure and small, valuable items such as money and lead balls for the musket & pistols, could easily be dislodged and lost. Originally the sporran was carried on the belt - just like a modern holidaymaker's money belt. The 'working sporran' was usually very basic - a large circle of leather with holes punched around the periphery and then drawn together with a thin leather thong and attached to the belt. The strongly traditional Scots held onto their Clan identity and dress and carried it into the early modern era as everyday dress cultivating a staple of Scottish cultural heritage.
