SHIELD OF KING ARTHUR 985 by Marto Martespa This beautifully decorated shield is fabricated in Toledo steel and showcases a gold and silver plated metal sheet, riveted in place, depicting the coat-of-arms of the legendary King Arthur. Arthur's crest features trio of crowns, stacked atop one another, reproduced in a relief-style of hammered embossing. The King Arthur triangular shield, known as a kite shield, is double reinforced steel with triple reinforced corners. This ornamental shield is beautifully detailed with riveted golden steel fittings that frame a deep red and white enameled finish aged with golden craquelure veins. Equipped with a thick steel chain on the reverse side of the shield, the shield is easily mounted and also features an adjustable sword handle/mount giving the ability to mount most sized swords behind it. KING ARTHUR King Arthur is a legendary British leader of the late 5th and early 6th centuries, who, according to medieval histories and romances, led the defense of Britain against Saxon invaders in the early 6th century. Though details of Arthur's story are mainly composed of folklore and literary invention, his historical existence is debated and disputed by modern historians. In the literature, the coat of arms of King Arthur of Logres is three crowns. The Celtic Welsh Dragon is the emblem of Wales the Red Dragon Dreadful' and it was blazed on King Arthur's helmet in battle. An important aspect of medieval knighthood was the adherence to a knightly code of virtues. Goals which was considered a Knight should aspire included certain qualities such as prowess, loyalty, generosity, courtesy, gentlemanly conduct and also owing allegiance to his King or Prince. All such virtues that once inspired the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
