ULTUNA HELMET AB3400 GDFB
This unique helmet is a reconstruction of the Ultuna Helmet, named for the site of the Swedish grave site from which it was unearthed. Though Scandinavian in origin, the original is a pre-Viking helmet from the early dark ages, dating to the 7th or 8th century. Instead of filler plates, the helms exterior is made from a latticework of riveted steel strips over a hardened leather shell. Instead of an aventail, the helm has hinged strips of steel to protect the side and back of the head. It was likely intended to be a ceremonial helm.
