GENERAL CUSTER'S 1861 NAVY REVOLVER CA805 Collector's Armoury This elegantly engraved pistol is an identical replica of the 1861 Navy revolver presented General Custer during the Civil War. Cock the hammer and twirl the cylinder, and the locking pins and percussion cap will be revealed. Pull the trigger and experience the same satisfaction its owner must have felt in 1862.
The wolf’s head design on either side of the hammer was one of many fascinating flourishes added to the revolver by the famed 19th Century engraver L.D. Nimschke. This re-creation is exact in every detail, right down to the craftsman’s guide, the letter “P”, which was placed adjacent to the serial number, calling for special handling so this weapon could be plated. The handsome grips offer an intricate eagle and shield design. The checkered patterning on both sides are perfectly restored to cover the area that was blotted out by the personalization plate. The personality of this reproduction is as bold as the charactar of its original owner.
An optional Frame Set comes with brass post hangers, silver Name Plate of ID, and easily hangs via hangers mounted on rear. Our optional Box Set offers a 10" x 17.5" x 3" furnature grade Alder wood box that will accomodate desktop or wall display. This percussion revolver was widely used in the American Civil War and it continued to be a prominent firearm in the settling of the American west. Hence, the Colt Navy has been used in many films, far too many to list here but some of them include: John Wayne in "The Big Trail", "How the west was won", "The good the bad and the ugly", "Glory", "Gettysburg", "Dances with Wolves" and "Wyatt Earp".
Colt first named this Revolver "the Ranger model"; but the designation "Navy" quickly took over. It remained in production until 1873, when revolvers using fixed metallic cartridges came into widespread use.
