The Marto 170 Korekazo Samurai Tanto is hand crafted by Marto of Toledo Spain. The Ishido School originated at the Sekido Temple in Omi Province around the Kanei period (1624). From there the smiths went to various sections of the country to found branch Ishido schools. Some went to Kii Province and came to be known as the Kishi Ishido. Later Tameyasu led this group to Osaka. Others went to Edo, the most famous of these being Ishido Korekazu. It would seem that Korekazu was recognized as a good swordsmith during his own life time as he had a number of customers of high social standing and in the KAEI BUKAN (Reference book of Kaei) he is referred to as a tosho who made swords for the Bakufu
The Tanto Korekazu Samurai Dagger is a high quality replica reproduction of the original held in the Marto private collection. Scabbard and handgrip are made in resin (false ivory), engraved with peasants life scenes. The slightly curved, one edged blade is tempered steel made.
Marto has been a leader in quality for nearly 50 years, and as many collectors know, the attention to the exquisite detailing as exemplified in this museum quality replica Korekazo Tanto has established Marto as skilled artisans of the finest decorative Japanese swords available in the world today.
